Privacy by design
Keep full control over your files! Since the desktop app runs locally it does not require an online registration or connection. Furthermore. The app does not collect user data or track your behavior. Your files remain safely with you.
Always available - Local-first, offline-first!
The desktop app requires no Internet connection, so your files are not leaving your computer and you can always access them. It is up to you to decide which tools you can use to sync (with Nextcloud, Dropbox, Syncthing) and which ones you can use to encrypt (e.g. Cryptomator) them.
Just files - No vendor locking
TagSpaces stores the tags, descriptions and colors in readable text files along your files. Since the app do not have a database or a software back-end, there is no vendor locking and you can easily access your data even without our app.
Open and Extensible
TagSpaces Lite is an open source app released under the AGPL license. It is built using modern web technologies and it is easily extensible with the help of many plugins, most of which are released under the MIT license.

Create & Collect
With the TagSpaces Web Clipper you can collect web pages, bookmarks, geo-coordinates or screenshot from the Web. With the built-in text file editors you can create digital notes that can include tables, todo-lists, math formulas or diagrams.
Organize & Annotate
TagSpaces can connect to folders from your hard drive and provide a convenient and uniques ways to browse the content of these folders. You have the ability to add tags (e.g. labels) to any file or folder. In the Pro version you can add descriptions and geo-tags to your files and folders.
Search & Find - Be productive
Using tags along the folder hierarchy allows you to have cross references in the folders. The search functionality allows you to find files with any combination of tags. TagSpaces Pro has a full-text search for text files, which makes it an alternative for a Desktop search apps.

In contrary to the most file tagging applications, we do not persist the tags in a centralized way. As a consequence, the added meta information is not vendor locked.

Use or share your files online by putting them on a S3 compliant object storage
Connect S3 compliant object storage (e.g. buckets) such as from AWS, Cloudflare, Wasabi or MinIO. Use the web version to access your files from everywhere even on your iPhone or Android tablet or smartphone.
- Browse, preview, tag and search the files located there.
- Work collaboratively with your peers on common buckets.
- Edit files located in the cloud without downloading and re-uploading them.
- Upload new files to S3 buckets with simple drag and drop actions.
- Create time-limited, sharable links to files on buckets.
- Create your own Dropbox or Evernote-like services only by using a bucket of your choice as a back-end.

With the free TagSpaces Web Clipper for Chrome, Edge and Firefox browsers, you can save web pages, screenshots, geo-locations or bookmarks on your local hard drive as plain files for a later offline use.
- Saving whole web pages or only part of them, allowing you to use the application similar to the many "read in later" services.
- Take a screenshot from the visible part of the webpage or create a bookmark to it. This, together with the tagging support allows you to use TagSpaces as a full-fledged bookmark manager.
- Using just files for storing the web pages has many advantages. The main one is that your collected content is not "taken hostage" in any online service.
